Essentials summer 2018

Ola,

I think we can all agree that this summer has been pretty much insane. And considering it likes to rain in the Netherlands I’ll try my best not to complain about it.

This weather has made me buy two things I never thought I would buy. Or I didn’t buy them, boyfriend was kind enough to go to the store while I was at work. So all props to him

First thing on the shopping list was a fly mask. Normally Grumpy doesn’t care to much about flies, but this year their exceptionally bad. As a fly mask newbie I had no idea what to buy, so I went for the mask below from Bucas. It’s the freedom fly mask which costs about 14.95 euro. Grumpy got a small head for a horse so he has size medium. They run rather big.

The second item he picked up was the Naf Electro lytes for electrolytes. Grumpy hasn’t sweated so much lately, so I have a feeling he is missing a bit of salt. It was the only one they had left at the store, so no idea if it’s great or not, but we shall see. He had no problem eating it and the packaging is easy to use. Costs 14.95 euro as well.

Hopefully these items will make Grumpies life a little better. He seemed to already enjoy the mask. No flies for us.

Stable tip

Good evening,

You know that feeling when your horse have been outside with his raincoat on, rolling around, having fun and then he/she comes in and you have to hang the rug over your other rugs which is hanging on your stable door? Making them all dirty as well.

The drama.

….

I actually stole this tip from a stable friend who had hung up one. A rug bag for your stable door.

I bought mine from QHP a couple of weeks ago and it’s proving itself very useful. It’s super easy to click on your door and you can still slide the door open. The one on the picture above is currently carrying 3 different sweat rugs(yeah let’s not get into why I have 3 different ones), all staying nice and clean while the dirty rain coat can hang on top.

Here are some different options:

QHP – 21.95 euro

BR – 25 euro

Out with old…

And in with the new….

This first product below I’ve bought several times spite that it doesn’t really work for Grumpy. I see everyone getting beautiful mane and tail from it, but for some reason unknown, Equishine from Sectoline just doesn’t work on Grumpy.

Nothing dramatic of course, but I wanted something new that would work and I generally love the products of Cowboy magic so I thought I would give the super bodyshine a go. And wow, what a difference. Suddenly I can or Grumpy in this case can parade around with a nice mane and tail to!

It’s a tiny bit more expensive, but such a better detangler.

PS of Sweden – Nirak

Ola,

A late evening visit from me today. I just came across this new bridle from PS of Sweden. It’s called Nirak and will be released online the 1st of March. According to them this is the best bridle they have made so far. It does look interesting and I love the work of PS of Sweden, but unfortunately I cannot stand the contrasting stitching. I’m more of a black stitching kind of girl. Nonetheless it does look beautiful and is meant to have the best for the horse in mind with its anatomical design. Will probably be in around 300-400 euro range.

Amidale 4 flex sport stirrups

Good evening,

About a month ago I noticed that the rubber was bursting on my flex stirrups from Epplejeck. So I decided to look for new ones. I mean, I would love to buy the Sprenger bow balance, but they are so expensive I just can’t seem to justify the price. It’s like buying super expensive body lotion, biggest waste of money ever. However as my knees really need the flex I started looking for alternatives online.

After a bit of research I came across the Amidale 4-flex sport stirrups. They’ve been highly recommended by a lot of people on the net, so I decided to give them a go. I must say so far I’m pleasantly surprised. The flex is good, I really like the black(you can get them in all colors possible), and they provide a good grip. I tried them out yesterday and didn’t have any problems with my knees.

I bought mine at De Paardengruiter for 43 euro. I didn’t knew the site on beforehand and was a bit sceptical to order from them, but didn’t have to be at all. They’ve provided great service and the product was neatly packed in. There was an issue with the delivery and they notified me on WhatsApp which is so much better then dealing with everything over mail. Top notch service(no they didn’t pay me to say that, haha).

The bling

When I came into the whole equestrian industry I couldn’t understand why everyone was so into the bling. It was bling here and there and everywhere.

Lately I’ve been to a lot of competitions and watched them on tv and if you got two people competing the absolute same way, I’ve noticed that most of the time the decked out one will win. Obviously totally not how it should be, but the equestrian industry is full of “shouldn’t be’s”.

Someone must have talked into my ear while I was sleeping tough, cause now I’m warming up to the idea myself. I still wouldn’t go for the snakeskin, bling bling and overly extravagant look, but I do think a little subtle bling is nice.

Yesterday I had to buy a gift for my horse loving cousin and while doing that I came across this jacket : Samshield Victorine

The jacket is very technical, nice and soft fabric and good looking. The fabric is really stretchy and I think it looks classy. It only has a little bit of bling on the end of the arms. After working in the apparel industry for so long I think I just appreciate when brands finally come out with something innovative. Let’s face it, the equestrian industry must be the most slow going industry ever.

Anyway, this jacket will enter my goal list. At the moment it wouldn’t look good on me and with the hefty price tag of 419 euro I can’t afford it either. Once I get a bit better and I’ve done some more competitions I’ll entertain the idea again.

Stupidly expensive horse products

Yesterday I had to drop by the horse tack shop to buy a dressage competition book. And as per usual when you do such a thing you come home with way more than you bargained for.

Walking trough the isles my eye fell on this thing from NAF – braid it up.

It looked fancy and smelled nice. And I thought to myself “it’s the second time that I will braid, of course I need such a thing”.

Ehm.

Way to go Maria. You just bought a 15 euro bottle of hairspray. I don’t even spend that much money on hairspray for myself.

Mind you I do love NAF’s product overall. Their vitamins are really great, but this is just a marketing product meant for dumb people like me. The spray is also way to hard and thin, so when I tried it out Grumpy hit his head in the ceiling.

Best 15 euro I’ve ever spent…

Dear Santa

It’s officially less then a month till christmas. Which means thats its less then a month till Santa comes around. There is a few things that I hope will lay under my christmas tree. Even if I need to buy it myself 😉

  1. Equiline Helm and boots bag

Since I hopefully will be starting competitions in January this bag would be perfect. They actually don’t sell it in the Netherlands as far as I could find, but you can find it online here.

2. Eskadron Platinum Sweat rug

I’ve been wanting this rug since I first laid my eyes on the collection, but considering Mr.Grumpy has enough rugs from here to Tokyo I haven’t managed to find an excuse yet that would justify me buying it. Can be found here.

3. Eskadron Fetlock boots

I have the front leg versions of these ones, but not the backlegs hence why their on the list. Can be bought here.

4. Clincher browband

I don’t know how long I’ve looked for the right clincher browband and yet I haven’t found the perfect one that I want except for one that doesn’t get made anymore. But this one comes pretty close. Can be bought here(I didn’t come up with the price, I know its outrageous).

5. Schockemohle Colerado Stirrup leather

When I bought my saddle it came with new stirrups and stirrup leather. The only issue is that the leather is so useless, its really difficult to change the length if you are already sitting on the horse, so I am looking for some new ones. These ones from Schockemohle are pretty nice. Can be bought here.

6. Amerigo x Mattes dressage girth

In all honesty I should have just bought this one instead of the BR one, so now its on the christmas list(probably forever as I just realised the leather girth alone is 250 euro…). Love that it comes in black. The only thing is that you will have to buy the girth as well as the fur. Girth can be bought here and fur here.

So, that was my christmas list. Considering my family doesn’t have anything to do with horses, nor do they read this blog I will probably have to purchase it all by myself. haha.

Same Same, but different – Jodhpurs

same-same

So its time for another round of Same Same, but different. This time I’ve found two pairs of jodhpurs who are basically identical to each other, except for the price and brand of course.

The Harry’s horse smart airsystem can be bought HERE.

The Ariat heritage lace paddock 4lr can be bought HERE.

Both jodhpurs come in cow leather, shock absorbing, airy and waterproof(as far as leather boots are waterproof that is).  But as you can see the price is pretty different at 90,- versus 160,- euro. In this round I actually think the version from Harry’s Horses win, I think it looks just a tad bit sleeker in a way. Which would you choose?
